For many, reaching for the body lotion after the shower is part of the standard beauty ritual. The great thing about it: it is so liquid that it is absorbed in no time at all and you can get dressed again straight away. The problem: body lotions are not very effective. Especially if you tend to have dry and irritated skin and need moisturizer. According to the American academy of dermatology, an association of more than 20,000 dermatologists, you should switch to an alternative.
Body cream instead of body lotion
The difference between body lotion and body cream: the cream is much richer. Although its consistency is a little thicker and it takes longer to absorb, it is much more effective. Creams have thicker, moisturizing formulas that help repair dry skin. The texture is different because it contains more oil and less water.

Body lotions are highly diluted
The fact that it is quickly absorbed by the skin is a major advantage of body lotions. Handy when things must go fast. However, the lotion is often heavily diluted for this – also so that it can be spread more easily. The disadvantage: diluting important care ingredients loses their effectiveness. Instead, opt for body creams that you apply when you have a little more time to let them sink in. Even if you tend to have dry skin, you don’t have to apply lotion to your body every day. So, make creaming a ritual. In the evening, take a bath (or a shower), apply lotion afterward, and throw a thin bathrobe over your body to let the cream take effect. By the way, there are special foot creams and foot masks for the feet, it is best to put socks over them and leave them on overnight. Look forward to baby-soft feet in the morning!
