Naomi Campbell Embarks on a New Journey with India on Her Radar

In an exclusive interview with Vogue India for its March/April cover story, the supermodel talks about her plans to invest in the country and use her platform to give back.

Campbell has long been an advocate for diversity and representation in fashion, and her interest in India is no exception. “I think India is a very important part of the world. I’ve always been drawn to the country, the culture, the people,” she says.

The supermodel has been visiting India for years, but her recent trips have been focused on exploring opportunities to give back. “I feel like I’ve been very blessed in my life, and I want to give back in any way that I can,” she explains. “India is a place where I feel like I can really make a difference.”

Campbell is particularly interested in empowering women and girls, and she sees India as a place where she can make a real impact. “There are so many incredible women and girls in India who have so much potential, but they don’t always have the resources or opportunities to reach it,” she says. “I want to help change that.”

To that end, Campbell has been meeting with local NGOs and organizations to learn more about the issues facing women and girls in India, and to explore ways in which she can support them. “I want to use my platform to raise awareness about these issues and to help bring about change,” she says.

Campbell is also interested in investing in India’s burgeoning fashion industry. “India has a rich history of textiles and craftsmanship, and I think there’s so much potential here,” she says. “I would love to work with local designers and artisans to help showcase their work on a global stage.”

The supermodel has already made inroads in this area, partnering with Indian designer Payal Jain to create a collection that was showcased at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai last year. “Working with Payal was an incredible experience,” she says. “I learned so much about Indian textiles and craftsmanship, and it was an honor to be able to showcase her work on an international platform.”

Campbell’s interest in India goes beyond fashion and philanthropy, however. She’s also fascinated by the country’s rich culture and history. “India has such a rich and diverse cultural heritage, and I’ve been fortunate enough to explore some of it on my trips here,” she says. “From the food to the music to the art and architecture, there’s so much to discover.”

The supermodel is also a fan of Indian cinema, and she’s been exploring opportunities to work in the industry. “I’ve always been a fan of Indian cinema, and I think it’s a really exciting time for the industry,” she says. “There’s so much talent here, and I would love to be a part of it.”

Campbell’s interest in India is part of a broader trend of global celebrities and influencers investing in the country. From Beyoncé to Will Smith to Leonardo DiCaprio, a growing number of stars are looking to India as a place to expand their reach and impact.

For Campbell, however, her interest in India is deeply personal. “I’ve always
