The price of salmon fell by 5% last week

The average price of salmon has fallen on the markets by 1.43% in the first four weeks of the year, January 2 to January 29, and now stands at NOK 86.02 per kilo, which is equivalent to ISK 1,208. The biggest week-to-week decline occurred last week when the average price fell by 5.24%.

This can be read from the Nasdaq Salmon Index, which is based on the reported sales price of headed and gutted salmon. It shows that the price at the end of last week was 30.37% higher than at the end of October and November.

Last week, the highest average price for 8 to 9 kilos of salmon was 96.20 Norwegian kroner per kilo or 1,352 Icelandic kroner. The lowest price was NOK 70.56 for one to two kilos of salmon.

Prices can start rising again and peak around Easter as usual. The highest price obtained for salmon last year was in week 17 (April 24 to 30), when each kilogram of salmon was sold for 124 Norwegian kroner on average. It is almost 44% higher than last week’s price, although it is not certain that prices will reach the same heights as last year.
