Kosovo soldiers have returned from Turkey

Kosovo soldiers who participated in the search and rescue in the Turkish city of Hatay were awarded medals

A contingent of 39 members of the Kosovo Security Forces, who participated in search and rescue after the devastating earthquake, returned from Turkey and were welcomed at the airport by Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

In addition to Kurti, the Kosovo soldiers were welcomed at the Pristina International Airport “Adem Jashari” by the Minister of Defense of Kosovo Armend Mehaj, KSB commander Baskim Jasari, and Turkish Ambassador to Kosovo Sabri Tunc Angili, while family members greeted them in front of the airport.

Prime Minister Kurti “thanked the soldiers from the bottom of his heart for their effort and courage”. He said that the medals are proof of attention and gratitude for the courage shown in Turkey after the fatal earthquake of very large tragic proportions that shocked the people of Kosovo.

    – We know that at least four lives were saved by your arrival, but there are also more than 50 corpses pulled from the ruins in Hataj. It is our humanitarian obligation, but at the same time our duty as a partner, as an ally and as a state and friendly people of the Republic of Turkey to be with them in these difficult days, and we achieved that precisely through you – stressed Prime Minister Kurti.

    Technical and logistic assistance

Kurti also thanked the Republic of Turkey for the technical and logistical assistance to the Kosovo soldiers, saying that the people of Kosovo and the Republic of Kosovo only further strengthened their ties with the people and the Republic of Turkey.

The KBS team managed to rescue first a two-year-old girl and her mother in Hataj on February 8, while on February 12 they also managed to rescue a 45-year-old man and a 13-year-old girl.

The KBS team included specialists in urban search and rescue, as well as emergency medical aid teams and search dog units. In addition to the Kosovo soldiers, there was also a team of six members of the Kosovo Search and Rescue Association, which returned last week, to assist the Turkish authorities in Turkey.
