Icelandair has canceled all flights from the USA and Canada to Keflavik due to the weather, as well as the airline’s morning flights to countries around Europe. Play canceled one flight this morning, but another is scheduled.
“All our scheduled flights to Europe this morning went on schedule except one, to Liverpool. The same applies to the American flights that arrived last night,” says Nadine Gudrun Yaghi, Play’s communications director, in an interview with Media.
She says that the airline has not canceled either American flights or European flights.
“Everything here has been busy for the last few days trying to plan this, trying to find a way to make this day happen because we knew this prediction was in the cards.
We decided yesterday and the day before to speed up our plans a little so that the American planes would be on the move a little earlier to avoid the weather. The same applies to the European departures this morning,” says Nadine, adding that passenger safety is always “number one, two, and three”.

Extra domestic flight tomorrow
Icelandair canceled international flights as mentioned earlier, but all domestic flights were also canceled today due to the weather.
“We have set up extra flights tomorrow to Akureyri, Egilsstadir and Isafjordur. In order to get all passengers from today’s trips to their destination tomorrow, a decision was made to use a 184-seat Boeing 757 passenger jet for an extra flight to and from Akureyri and Egilsstadur tomorrow,” says Gudni Sigurdsson, Icelandair’s information representative, in a reply to Media.
About 1,700 Icelandair passengers took advantage of the airline’s preventive measures due to the bad weather forecast for today, but passengers who had booked flights today offered to speed up their journey.
“Initially, around 3,700 flights were booked at this time, but due to the measures, it is now assumed that the disruptions will affect around 2,000 passengers,” says Icelandair’s announcement from yesterday.
