It is expected to pass about 3,500 kilometers over the southern tip of South America, which is about 10 times closer than some communications satellites.
NASA has said there is no risk of an asteroid named “2023 BU” hitting Earth.
Even if there was a risk of an asteroid hitting Earth, “it would turn into a fireball and disintegrate in the atmosphere, but some larger pieces could potentially fall as smaller meteors,” NASA added.
The asteroid will be closest to Earth at 1:27 a.m. in the morning, and it was discovered by amateur astronomer Gennady Borisov from the observatory in Crimea.
