Why do we find those who understand math attractive?

Such an interesting skill shows intelligence, resourcefulness, and efficiency. It intrigues us and gives us the security that we are dealing with someone who knows how to solve problems

Think of the first appointment with someone. What is it that will really attract you to the person standing across from you?

Certainly, two beautiful eyes and a bright smile will play a role. In essence, however, it is not the color of the eyes and two beautiful lips that win you over, but the expressiveness in the gaze and the promises in the smile. It is the humor, the quips, and the intelligence that you will see in a person that will make you think of him when you return home.

It’s no secret that most people are looking for an intelligent partner, someone who will impress them, surprise them, and earn their appreciation and admiration. These are the elements that will keep the attraction and the spark burning for a long time.

On a first date, we all put on our best and try to impress the person we’re meeting. Clever jokes and special encyclopedic knowledge star in this sensational first game.

But there is one more item that can be added to this list: Fast math.

It’s hard not to be pleasantly surprised by someone who will be faced with numbers, doing the calculations quickly in the mind and giving the answers immediately, making this process seem like the easiest thing in the world. But we all know it isn’t, which is why we admire those who can do it.

The attraction we feel for this skill probably goes deeper than the obvious, as it shows that the person who possesses it is intelligent, nimble, and efficient. Most likely, it reveals a person who will operate in the same direct manner when he needs to solve real-life problems. And this is a characteristic that we would certainly like our partner to have.

“All of my clients, regardless of gender, are looking for intelligence in a partner,” says Anita Chlipala, marriage and family therapist and expert in relationships. “If mental math is a sign of intelligence, it could make someone feel safe or that that person can actually provide care. Especially if it is a quality that you do not have, it is certain that you will admire it in the other person”, he comments speaking tobustle.com.

    After all, opposites attract.

“Those who are so good with math are usually characterized by logical thinking,” says dating expert Thomas Edwards. “This can serve a purpose if an unemotional decision needs to be made.”

Such abilities become increasingly valuable as we grow older. “What was once something you were embarrassed about because it looked weird suddenly turns into a really attractive feature,” says Edwards. As we grow older, our perception of what makes a great partner evolves. So don’t be surprised if you once had a crush on Gossip Girl’s handsome but not-so-smart Nate Archibald, but now you’d prefer Hinge’s engineer who knows four languages.
