Today, the Council added 20 persons and one entity to the list of those subject to restrictive measures
The European Union approved a new package of sanctions against Iran yesterday, as a continuation of the introduction of restrictive measures that began in October.
Yesterday, the Council approved new conclusions on Iran, specifically focusing on the unacceptable repression of ongoing protests and the human rights record, Iran’s military cooperation with Russia, including the delivery of drones used by Russia to attack Ukraine, the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), as well as regional security.
Response to demonstrations
Today, the Council added 20 persons and one entity to the list of those subject to restrictive measures in the context of the existing regime of sanctions for the human rights of Iran.
After the death of the girl Mahsa Amini, this measure came as a consequence and response to the recent demonstrations in Iran.
The EU Council added four individuals to the list of those subject to restrictive measures for undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine. The Council has signaled its intention to introduce restrictive measures against another entity on the same basis.
Restrictive measures
EU restrictive measures include asset freezes, travel bans to the EU, and prohibitions on making funds or economic resources available to those listed.
Today’s appointments follow earlier Council actions on October 17, October 20, and November 14.
