Scientists have created the first smart lenses as a “screen” in the eye

When we think of the future, we immediately think of artificial intelligence, chips, VR headsets, and other devices that could help us get rid of smartphones and computers.

Smart contact lenses from the company “Mojo” bring us closer to that world since they contain a “MicroLED” display that the user controls with his own eye.
The California-based company has been working on its smart lenses since 2015, and the idea is similar to the one behind VR glasses – to place augmented reality technology near the eyes to make everyday tasks easier for users. Mojo Vision finally has a working prototype, and what works can be tested.

The idea with smart lenses is to overcome the bulkiness of the device – the biggest obstacle when it comes to VR glasses. A large number of companies working on VR technology are trying to make glasses that resemble sunglasses, but the technology involved in the device makes the situation complicated. The lenses should overcome that problem.

At the heart of the lens, according to Arstehnika, is an “ArmM0” processor and a “Micro LED” display with 14,000 pixels per inch. The display is only 0.5 millimeters in diameter, which the creators say makes it the smallest screen for displaying dynamic content ever made.

A prototype is an excellent platform for testing, and successful tests are the path to approval for mass production. Things from the movies are slowly becoming reality.
