8 tips to choose a single stone

A few years ago choosing a single stone was an easy task: a ring from mom’s or grandma’s jewelry box. Or simple questions like white gold or yellow? What shape should the stone be?

These days, there’s a lot more to consider when figuring out when, where, and how to buy one Solitaire ring. Which, if you ask us, is an important purchase, mostly from an emotional point of view.

Whether you are the one going to pick out the ring alone or you decide to go along, there are a few rules that would be helpful to have/keep in mind.

    1. Don’t get carried away by trends

An engagement ring is a timeless, classic symbol of your love that will last forever. See what she loves most and what suits her style best. Does she prefer yellow gold or platinum jewelry? Does she wear statement jewelry or opt for minimal pieces? We assume that you want it to be a piece of jewelry that she will want to wear every day for the rest of her life, so these are the first important things to know if you want this ring to be a surprise so you choose it yourself.

    2. Choose e-shops that will offer you safe shopping

We’ve all found, time and time again, that online stores can offer the best selection and price.

Look for a ring through a reputable e-shop, and you’ll probably get a better deal, but you’ll have access to a much wider variety of diamonds and gemstones and the convenience and time to choose what you want.

    3. To be able to wear it on any finger

Many women choose to wear their ring on the ring finger but versatility in accessories will always be appreciated. Especially if it is a minimal piece of jewelry then it can be worn on the middle finger as well. Please take this into account when measuring the size.

    4. Size only matters to those who think it matters

Go big or go home, yes, is a strong slogan but when it comes to the ring you have to agree that size does matter. In this case, weigh your options. Perhaps in this case it is worth placing more emphasis on the size and less on the color and clarity of the stone or the color of the metal.

In recent years the ring has become more of an extension of personal style and for some women, this means a deliberate departure from the classic “bling”.

    5. Choose the perfect metal

There are four basic options: platinum, white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold.

The rule of thumb is to choose the color that best complements the wearer’s style. If she tends to wear silver jewelry, choose white gold. If she prefers more color, consider a rose gold ring. In general, we recommend choosing white gold over platinum. White gold is significantly less expensive (although it looks identical) and requires less maintenance and cleaning than platinum.

Second, when deciding between 14k and 18k gold, keep in mind that the main difference is in their alloy composition. 14-karat gold is 58.3% gold and 18-karat gold is 75% gold. Both are mixed with other metals to make them durable enough for jewelry.

    6. Don’t be afraid to think completely original and choose a completely unique ring

It is becoming more and more common for women to eschew diamonds and traditional options and opt for something personal, unique, and unexpected. You can choose a single-stone rosette a single stone with a side stone than alternative monotone or even a ring with black platinum and black diamond.

    7. Don’t go alone

Buying the ring can be a difficult task. Ask friends for jewelry store recommendations, and bring along someone who knows you both well, whose opinion you respect, and whose aesthetic you love.

    8. Define your budget

Among the many tips for this purchase, you may also hear that you should spend two or three salaries for a single stone. The only advice is that you should determine the budget in advance by putting a “ceiling” on the amount you will have available. To this data, you will add all of the above.

Getting married and starting your life together can be an expensive process. Buying a single stone you can afford, rather than following old, outdated “rules”, will reduce your stress. Instead, make sure you focus on the essential part, the emotional part.
