We must remain united because they are the only ones responsible for this energy crisis in Moscow and nowhere else, she stated
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen (von der Leyen) , in an interview with the Spanish “El Mundo”, spoke about gas supply and said that the European Union should prepare for the worst possible scenario.
- We must remain united because they are the only ones responsible for this energy crisis in Moscow and nowhere else. Given that Russia has already partially or completely cut off gas supplies to 12 member states, we all have to be prepared for the worst – she pointed out.
She noted that some EU countries are more dependent on Russian gas “either because of their geographical position or because of their sovereign energy decisions” and added that these countries are now in a more vulnerable position, but that the member countries economies are connected through the single market. She emphasized that the EU is now turning to more reliable energy partners.
- We have already reached record volumes of deliveries of liquefied natural gas from the United States of America, increasing volumes of gas from Norway, the countries of the Gulf, Algeria, or the Caspian Sea region, and an increasing number of countries around the world.
In the first half of 2022, we imported an additional 38 billion cubic meters of LNG and gas through pipelines, not from the Russian Federation. This more than compensates for the reduction of 28 billion cubic meters of gas supply through the Russian gas pipeline – said von der Leyen.
