From July 1, a Russian passport can be issued in five working days

The period for issuing a passport from July 1 will be reduced to five days, regardless of the place of residence and the reasons for its replacement. The norm will also apply to passports with electronic media. Now a Russian passport is issued in 10 days if the documents are submitted at the place of residence, and in 30 days in all other cases. This was reported by TASS concerning the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

“From July 1, 2022, a new passport will be issued within five working days, regardless of the place of residence, stay, actual residence, or circumstances of its replacement,” the press center said.

Part of the changes to the regulation on the passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation entered into force in the summer of 2021. In particular, the validity period of Russian passports, subject to replacement when the owner reaches the age of 20 and 45, has been extended to 90 days. In addition, the period required for applying to the issue or replacement of a passport for 14-year-olds has been increased from 30 to 90 days.

The passport form itself has been modernized. Now there is no “Personal code” in it, the last page has been changed – now it contains information for the passport holder in an accessible form. In addition, the Russians were given the right to independently decide whether to put marks in their passports on registration and divorce, on the presence of children under the age of 14, on the available passports, on the blood type and the TIN.

Earlier, “Expert,” wrote that Russia plans to start issuing electronic passports from January 2023. Valentina Kazakova, head of the Main Directorate for Migration Issues of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, said that the number of new passports issued will depend, first of all, on the desire of Russians to receive them. At the initial stage, their number will be at least 100 thousand. According to Kazakova, the population is showing interest in the new type of document, this is evidenced by incoming appeals, in which “citizens are asked to inform about the date of the start of issuance.”
