    Oatmeal is made from whole grain oats

    Eating oatmeal has many beneficial health effects. And especially for people in their fifties, the grain is ideally suited to get rid of excess kilos. This is confirmed by a study that was recently published in the English-language scientific journal “Journal of Nutrition”.

    Researchers at Tufts University in Boston analyzed the data of over 3,100 participants to examine how the consumption of whole grain cereals such as oatmeal, brown rice and the like and refined cereals found in pasta and white bread, among other things, related to five known risk factors for heart disease affects: waist circumference, blood pressure, blood sugar, triglycerides and cholesterol. The scientists used nutrition questionnaires that the participants (who were on average in their mid-50s at the start of the data collection) filled out every four years between 1991 and 2014.

    Less waist circumference thanks to whole grain

    The data showed that a lower intake of refined grains resulted in a smaller average increase in waist circumference and a larger decrease in triglyceride levels (like cholesterol levels in blood lipids) for each four-year period.
