    Five members of Kurdish security force killed in PKK-led attack in Iraq

    BAGHDAD, June 5, Five members of a Kurdish security force, known as the Peshmerga, were killed on Saturday in an ambush carried out by fighters from the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) by Ankara, in the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan.

    “A Peshmerga force was ambushed in the morning by PKK fighters in Morning Mountain in northern Iraq’s Duhok province, killing five Peshmerga members and injuring four others,” the officials said. local authorities in a statement.

    According to the statement, the Peshmerga were responsible for ensuring security and stability for the inhabitants of the villages in the border areas with Turkey at the time of the attack.

    “We had previously warned against such incidents, and everyone must respect the borders of the Kurdistan region and not endanger its stability,” the statement added.

    On April 23, the Turkish army launched a land and air offensive against PKK targets beyond its borders with Iraq.

    Turkish forces frequently carry out ground operations, airstrikes, and artillery bombardments against the positions of PKK fighters in northern Iraq, particularly in the Qandil Mountains, the main PKK bases.

    The PKK is classified as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union.
