The father of the killed children is under house arrest, an Italian media report
Two children and an elderly man were killed when they were shot by a 34-year-old man in the suburbs of Rome, reports Ansa.
The children, two brothers, were three and eight years old, and an elderly man who was on a bicycle was injured. He was not related to the children who were playing about 30 meters from his house at the time of the attack.
The killer shot at them in a park in Ardea in the suburbs of Rome, and then he managed to escape and locked himself in the house. He committed suicide a few hours later.
Both children and an elderly man died on the spot. Emergency services tried to help the brothers but without success.
Police quickly located the attacker, and when they broke into the house, he committed suicide.
