Chinese foreign minister outlines China’s position on Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday outlined China’s position on the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict, in a telephone interview with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister. Foreign Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

In recent days, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has intensified, causing enormous loss of life, which is appalling, Wang said, before presenting China’s views and proposals on the issue.

First of all, Wang said, the root cause of the deterioration of the situation is that for a long time there has been no just solution to the Palestinian question.

In particular, in recent years, the Middle East peace process has strayed from its original course, United Nations Security Council resolutions have not been seriously implemented and, in particular, the right of Palestinians to creating an independent state has been continuously violated, exacerbating the plight of the Palestinian people, which has led to the intensification of the Israeli-Palestinian confrontation and repeated conflicts, Wang said.

As has been demonstrated, Wang noted, without a just settlement of the Palestinian question, Palestine, and Israel, as well as the Middle East, will not be able to achieve real peace.

Second, Wang said, what is urgent now is a ceasefire and an end to the violence, and the Security Council has a responsibility to seek rapid de-escalation.

China, as President of the Security Council for the month of May, urged the Council to hold two emergency consultations on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and drafted a press statement, aimed at guiding the Council to take action, he added.

But unfortunately, the Council has so far failed to reach an agreement, with the United States standing against international justice, Wang said, urging all Council members to shoulder their responsibilities. and to make effective efforts to maintain regional peace and security.

Third, Wang insisted that the ultimate solution to the Palestinian question lies in the implementation of the two-state solution. China will hold an open debate on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at the United Nations Security Council on Sunday and expects all parties to speak with one voice on the issue.

China believes that the Security Council should reconfirm the two-state solution and urge Palestine and Israel to resume peace talks on the basis of the two-state solution as soon as possible, Wang added.

China will continue to firmly support the just cause of the Palestinian people, who aspire to the restoration of their legitimate national rights, to support a just solution to the current issue through political dialogue, and to assist the United Nations, the League of Nations. The Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to play a constructive role in this regard, Wang said.

For his part, Qureshi said Pakistan shared China’s position on the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict, supported the two-state solution and the just cause of the Palestinian people, and advocated promoting a solution through dialogue and negotiation between the Palestinian and Israeli parties.

Noting that Pakistan greatly appreciates China for standing up for justice in the Security Council, Qureshi said his country is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China in order to find ways to achieve a ceasefire. -fire and stop the violence, and calm the situation.
