An independent vaccine advisory group to the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) voted on Sunday to recommend the COVID-19 vaccine from US pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson for people aged 18 and over.
The CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is a group of vaccine and public health experts who help the CDC develop its immunization guidelines.
This recommendation came a day after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Saturday authorized the emergency use in the United States of this vaccine from Johnson & Johnson.
It is the third vaccine against COVID-19 to have received FDA clearance for emergency use in the country, after that developed by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer with its German partner BioNTech, and the second developed by the American company Moderna.
It is also the first vaccine against COVID-19 requiring only a single injection available in the United States.
