    Consumption rises in Shanghai during the Spring Festival in response to the call not to travel

    Retailers and restaurants in Shanghai reported surging sales during the Spring Festival holiday, as many people stayed behind to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

    Sales revenue for the city’s top 390 retailers reached 7.61 billion yuan (about $ 1.18 billion), 2.2 times the value recorded during last year’s vacation, according to the city commission. of Shanghai Trade.

    A total of 107 selected catering and beverage companies saw their turnover reach 29.33 million yuan in the same period, an increase of 79% from the previous year.

    The Spring Festival holiday, also known as the Lunar New Year, lasted from February 11 to 17 this year.

    From February 11 to 16, cinema attendance reached 5.21 million viewers, 2.2 times more than during the Spring Festival holidays in 2019, according to the Maoyan ticket and film data platform.
