Chile seeks revenge against a tough Colombian team

The selected one from Chile will come to the duel before Colombia with a strong desire for revenge after feeling deprived in the defeat with Uruguay (1-2) in his debut for the AND South American Limitations for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The trans-Andean team, led by a Colombian (Reinaldo Rueda), will face one of the rivals that best impressed on the first date at the National Stadium in Santiago from 9:30 p.m. with the broadcast on Public TV.

The match, valid for the second date, will have a purely Argentine referee team: Dario Herrera as main judge, Julio Fernandez and Cristian Navarro (assistants), Fernando Echenique (fourth); Mauro Vigliano and Fernando Espinoza in the VAR.

The Argentines will have to assimilate the pressure by all the debate unleashed in Chile by the performance of the Paraguayan Éber Aquino, referee of the match with Uruguay, who was pointed out as responsible for the defeat in the Centennial.

Aquino, supported by technology, did not sanction a hand within the area of Uruguayan Sebastian Coates at 42 minutes of the second half with the score 1-1, before the agonizing and decisive goal of Maximiliano Gomez.

In the first half, for a similar and even more debatable action, the Paraguayan did sanction a penalty that allowed the Uruguayans to score the first goal of the match.

The argument of the referees, according to the audios revealed by Conmebol, was that Coates had his arm “in a natural position”; while in the other action the Chilean defender Sebastian Vegas expanded the volume of his body with an extended arm to block the ball.

The indignation seized the entire Chilean team, caused the president of the National Professional Football Association (ANFP), Pablo Milad, to advance his intention to challenge Aquino as a FIFA referee, and even reached the government of the country with a protest from the Minister of Sport, Cecilia Perez, on Twitter.

For everything, the Chilean team will try to remove frustration against a Colombia that comes from thrashing Venezuela at home (3-0) with convincing team performance.

The team of Portuguese Carlos Queiroz reached the first half to round off that result in the Metropolitan of Barranquilla, where Juan Guillermo Cuadrado (Juventus of Italy), James Rodriguez (Everton of England) and the Atalanta forwards: Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel wore, authors of the goals.

With the exception of defender Santiago Arias, who suffered a Luxo-fracture of his left ankle with a multiligamentary injury in the game against “Vinotinto”, Colombia will present the same team from the debut.

In his place will enter John Stefan Medina, a soccer player from Mexican Monterrey who replaced him 12 minutes after the severe injury.

Chile will recover for this match the international defender Mauricio Isla (32 years old), a two-time champion of America in Chile 2015, and the United States 2016, who has already overcome the coronavirus.

The entry of the World Cup player in South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014 means restructuring in defense that will cost Nicolas Diaz, brother of Paulo – River Plate player -, who will retain a place but behind.

Another possible modification could occur in the midfield with the inclusion of Lorenzo Reyes by Claudio Baeza.

The South American Qualifiers began last Thursday under the system of competition all against all, round trip, to define the four direct places to Qatar 2022 and a fifth to play a playoff to be defined.

Next November (12 and 17) the last two dates of the year will be played, in which Chile will face Peru (L) and Venezuela (V); and Colombia to Uruguay (L) and Ecuador (V).
