The American diplomat became a member of the board of directors of the BGS Rail transport company.
Former US Department of State Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker joined the board of directors of BGS Rail, a rail freight company. Volker’s appointment has been posted on the company’s official website.
BGS Rail told the Center for Transport Strategies that Volker has been an independent member of the Board of Directors since September 1. He will also serve as an advisor to the head of the board of directors of the parent company Avia Solutions Group.
The company expects Volker’s presence to “succeed in developing and implementing growth plans that will increase foreign direct investment and create jobs in the Ukrainian market”, as well as expand the global reach of Avia Solutions Group and strengthen BGS Rail’s market position.
BGS Rail is a subsidiary of the Lithuanian Baltic Ground Services. It provides open-top wagons, covered wagons, and grain carriers for a long-term lease for the transportation of coal, ore, crushed stone, rolled metal, wood and grain. BGS Rail has been operating in Ukraine since 2018.
Kurt Volker was appointed State Department’s Special Representative for Ukraine in July 2017. During this time, he repeatedly visited Ukraine, maintained constant contact with the Ukrainian political leadership and several times met with the aide to the President of the Russian Federation Vladislav Surkov to discuss ways to resolve the situation in Donbass.
He resigned amid a scandal over the publication of a transcript of a telephone conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky in September 2019.
